Everyone loves to get away & camp off the beaten track, in NZ this means you need to be CSC (Certified Self Contained) There have been some major changes to this recently & this blog post will outline what's changing and when these changes will be implemented.
Changes to NZMCA’s Certified Self-Containment Processes
Government changes to certified self-containment have meant changes to our processes. Further details on the government changes and what it means for you can be found here on the NZMCA website.
Key dates and infomation:
- NZMCA vehicle inspectors are inspecting under the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers (Self-Contained Vehicles) Regulations 2023 from 1st October 2024.
- Government green warrant cards and NZMCA yellow warrant cards will be processed and sent out from 8th October 2024.
- Current blue self-containment certification cannot be transferred to green or yellow certification. You will need to have your vehicle inspected and for government green certification, pay the $120 levy. You will receive a request to pay once we have received and processed your inspection form.
- If you have a blue warrant card you can continue to rely on it to remain a member and access NZMCA parks and events, until the warrant card expires.
- If it was issued prior to 7 June 2024 (or 7 June 2023 for vehicles with a portable toilet) you can continue to rely on it for freedom camping until it expires or 7 June 2025, whichever occurs first.
- If it was issued on or after 7 June 2024 (or 7 June 2023 for vehicles with a portable toilet) you cannot rely on it for freedom camping. This is noted on the warrant card.
- The NZMCA will still process check sheets for NZS 5465 blue warrant cards inspected before 1st October. These cards are marked as NOT for freedom camping purposes.
